Lock maintenance

In order to keep the doors and windows to a “high” and safe standard also after a couple of years it’s important to maintain them properly. We have gathered some advises below, and if you want to get more information you can visit our website: http://www.locksecure.nl/slotenmaker-utrecht.

Like other technical equipment, locks and keys must be handled in order to work well. Maintenance requirements vary depending on usage frequency, load and environment. Different types of locks and the different parts of a lock must have different types of service. Wrong service can in the long run destroy a lock, so it’s important to think about it! Keys that are widely used wear and work worse. Worn keys should be replaced.

Toggle switches
A locking lock must NEVER be lubricated in the keyhole! Only the rule that controls the door or window should be lubricated. Use a long-term fat intended for this purpose.

Cylinder
NEVER lubricate a cylinder lock with grease! Only use spray or oil intended for lubrication in the keyhole. Two (2) service rounds per year are recommended. Cylinder locks that are used very frequently or are extremely weather-resistant should be sprayed or oiled more often. A lubrication just before the winter’s arrival prevents condensation and ice formation, which may weaken the lock.

Padlock Padlock type locking brackets – such as the ABLOY PL series – NEVER be lubricated in the keyhole. Only grease where the locking strap enters the lock. Use a long-term fat intended for this purpose. Padlock with cylinder should be serviced with lock spray – NEVER fat! Hanging out of doors outdoors should be seen at least twice a year.

Spanjolette with locking box
A lock that sits outside the door or window should be treated with lock spray – NEVER fat. Lubricate the rules that lock the door a couple of times a year. Use grease intended for this purpose – NOT oil. Also make sure that any screws are seated properly. Loose screws worsen the function, increase wear and tear and facilitate burglary. If the Spaniard has a lock that is recessed in the door or window, DO NOT lubricate it in the keyhole!

Hinges: Do not forget to review all hinges at least once a year. Make sure that any screws are seated properly. Loose screws impair the door’s function, increase wear and tear and facilitate burglary. The black dust coating that easily settles on the hinges is best prevented by regular maintenance and lubrication. Use a long-acting grease, NOT oil.
